Drugasar ‘Style’ gas wall heaters have been chosen to heat the halls, landings and stairways of an unusual residential building that is in a unique location.

Burbo Mansions in Blundellsands, near Liverpool, is a distinctive art deco apartment block that was built by the Costain company in the 1930s. It comprises 24 individual flats overlooking the beach, which is home to the spectacular ‘Another Place’ series of sculptures by Anthony Gormley.

The residents of Burbo Mansions have recently acquired the freehold to the property and have taken control of its upkeep and maintenance. One of their most urgent priorities was to replace the heating system in the common parts of the building, which consisted of a very old and inefficient boiler, together with a large number of cumbersome cast iron radiators.

After considering a number of alternatives, including a replacement ‘wet’ system and electric storage heaters, the residents opted for the installation of ‘Style’ balanced flue gas wall heaters from Drugasar. This proved to be the least expensive option in terms of both installation and running costs.

Style heaters utilise a combination of mains gas and natural convection for their heating. Air is drawn from outside the building for combustion, with waste gases expelled to the outside through the balanced flue. The result is safe, comfortable and economical heating, with the heaters operating at over 80% efficiency.

And, as their name suggests, the heaters are very stylish, perfectly complimenting their art deco surroundings.
